This is a variation on a breakfast gravy that I like to make. You can use ground beef or ground pork (or a mixture of both.) Try it and let me know what you think.
INGREDIENTS
1 lb. ground beef or pork
4 tbsp. butter
4 tbsp. flour
3 c. milk (warmed to room temperature in the microwave)
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 cube beef bullion
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. white pepper
1 tsp. course ground black pepper
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 can Pilsbury Grands Butter Tastin' biscuits
DIRECTIONS
1. Brown the ground meat and drain, set aside.
2. Prepare biscuits according to directions on can.
3. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour and wisk until creamy. Stir and continue to cook about 2-3 minutes until the mixture starts turning a very light brown.
Slowly wisk in the milk, to create a smooth sauce (adding too much milk too fast will results in lumps.)
4. Add Worcestershire sauce, bullion cube (crumble into a powder before adding), onion powder, white and black pepper, and nutmeg.
5. Add drained meat to the gravy and cook over medium-high heat until boiling.
6. Remove from heat (gravy will thicken as it starts to cool.)
SERVING
Tear a biscuit into small pieces in a bowl. Top with the gravy mixture and mix thoroughly.
*You can also serve this great gravy over the tops of a biscuit or toast, but then it's not quite a "bread pudding", is it?

Personally I think homemade buttermilk biscuits with country gravy (made with a bit of the bacon drippings) is much better. But, to each his own. :-)
I have a ground beef gravy (Grandma's Gravy) recipe. Sort of like the stuff they used to plop on top mashed potatoes in school.
However, mine (or Grandmas) is so much better.
I agree with ocd-l-m, homemade biscuits are much better. And what doesn't taste better with bacon drippings?
Janice,
Could you post the recipe so I can try it out?
(what doesn't taste better with bacon drippings?)
LOL... that's my philosophy!
Oh Tex it's real easy to make. This is going to be from memory so the measurements aren't exact.
For a family of 4 I use 2 pounds of ground beef, 85% lean. Crumble and fry, do not drain.
Add 4-6 tablespoons flour, mix in grease and beef to make it paste-like. Use more if needed and if you used too much, add butter or bacon grease.
Turn heat to med-high and slowly add 4-5 cans of beef broth stirring as it thickens. Add salt and pepper to taste and serve over homemade mashed potatoes. Yummm!
If you try it let me know how you if you liked it. Little ones may think it looks "gross" but my family has enjoyed this for generations.
and if you used too much, add butter or bacon grease.
Are you sure your name isn't Paula Deen?

Our son is thin, so I haven't ever worried about the calories, but he'll eat a bowl full of gravy. He just loves gravy. That is so unhealthy! On mashed potatoes would even be more healthy than just gravy and nothing else!
Big Tex, I have a technical question.
I want to get better AM reception, stations 300 miles away. Do you or can you recommend anything from the C. Crane Company?
Such as this?
http://www.ccrane.com/antennas/am-antennas/twin-coil-ferrite-am-antenna.aspx
I hope you have time to help, thanks.
Short wave radio... but it will not pick up AM stations. The only way to get decent reception of an AM station 300 miles away is internet radio feed or move closer to the station. :)
I have a laptop, if I buy a broadband card will I be able to connect to our city's free (wireless) internet?
Thanks Tex, you saved me a lot of money!
You will need a wireless LAN card. Then you should be able to use the free wireless (if it is an unsecure network.) You may need to check with the city to see if you need a password or 'key' to access it.
But check to see if your laptop has a wireless card built in... most of the newer ones do (the past few years.)
Thanks Tex, I'll check it out.
